Here at Woodstock Roofing, we take pride in our ability to carry out heritage work on the roofs of historic buildings using the techniques that were available when the buildings were first constructed. But why is it so important for us to use historically authentic techniques? We believe that using historic techniques to repair and maintain the roofs of classic buildings produces superior results for a number of reasons.

1. Original features can be kept intact

Utilising modern techniques and materials to repair a historic roof can sometimes mean sacrificing original features. It’s sometimes necessary to remove or replace certain features in order to accommodate up-to-date repair and maintenance techniques. However, by utilising traditional, era-appropriate techniques, our craftsmen can make effective roof repairs without losing any of the original roof’s unique and historically interesting features.

2. The repairs match the original roof

By using authentic, historical techniques, we are able to ensure that the repairs we make blend seamlessly into rest of the roof. It’s often possible to tell the difference between parts of a roof that have been put in place using modern methods and parts that were constructed along with the original building. So repairs that use modern techniques don’t always blend in well with the original roof and can look out of place. Using repair methods that were available when the roof was originally constructed solves this problem very effectively and ensures that, when the repairs are finished, the roof looks completely cohesive.

3. Authentic repair techniques protect the building

Old buildings can sometimes be easily damaged. Modern roof repair techniques can put historic buildings under stress due to the equipment they use. While the risk of damage from modern roof repair techniques isn’t very high, we don’t believe it’s worth taking any risk at all; utilising historically-appropriate methods can help keep older buildings intact.

As a roofing company, we’re passionate about maintaining the roofs of traditionally-constructed buildings.
